Being on the top of a high mountain peak in the middle of a violent thunderstorm in Sedona isn’t smart, but it can be pretty exciting. So can walking down that mountain trail in the dark in the pouring rain, especially if your flashlight batteries die. I took this shot from Eagle’s Rest in Sedona at Red Rock State Park just before the storm hit. The rocks around Sedona are the same one’s that are in the Grand Canyon, and in fact every layer that’s in the Grand Canyon is in Sedona. T.C. Schnebly founded the Sedona Post Office in Arizona in 1902, and thus made it a town officially.(Fortunately he named the Post Office after his wife rather than himself. I can’t imagine all that beauty being called Schnebly…LOL.) He accessed it by a “road” that today is still a heart in your throat thrill seeker’s experience driven by many folks merely for the fun of it. Come to think of it, the river in the Grand Canyon is a thrill seekers delight as well.
Why do we do all those “edgy” experiences for the “thrill of it”. It’s dangerous, and you’d think we’d be smarter than that. As a medic I’ve had to treat a lot of people who weren’t all that lucky in taking those chances for the thrill of it. Maybe that’s why I tend to write the exciting experiences so people can experience them vicariously and avoid the risk. After all, there’s enough risk in just stepping out the front door sometimes, especially if you have to drive metro freeways or eat at Chipotle!
